“We often get the referral from patients who start to see the physical effects of chemotherapy like hair loss. Cancer Action gives out over 300 wigs a year. We have a couple wig rooms full of different options that they can choose from. That’s an important part of how they feel about themselves, especially women. All of us look in the mirror before we leave for the day. It’s more than just finding the right color or style. It’s really getting them ready to face the world. That makes a huge difference. I like to say the women that come here leave well accessorized. We not only have wigs but we have hats, scarves and turbans that are often made by our volunteers. They really leave here with something that makes them feel comfortable.”
