Melanie Austin, Metropolitan Organization to Counter Sexual Assault (MOCSA)

Melanie Edited

“There are a lot of misconceptions in any community about sexual abuse and assault. At MOCSA, we are always trying to provide education and awareness around the issue so people can feel more comfortable talking about it and so they can feel more comfortable to come forward if they are a victim or know someone who is a victim.

In general I can tell you we have seen an increase in victims going in to get exams even in the last four years since I have been at MOCSA. We don’t think its because there are more assaults going on. We think that there is more education awareness on all levels that is allowing more people to come forward to feel comfortable to report.”
