Have you met Kid President?

By Jennifer Traffis, Director of Family & Children Services

Have you met Kid President? If not, it is time for you to meet him.

Today his message is about heroes. He says you are a hero! He’s right! Each one of us are heroes when we care for others. I don’t always feel like a hero. I usually feel like I don’t do enough, I could always do more. Kid President reminded me though that every act of kindness makes me a hero. Volunteering in my daughter’s class, advocating for quality education for all children, listening to a friend who has had a rough day, giving money to United Way and my church, or even cleaning my grandparent’s house. So, today, I’m going to wear my invisible cape proudly and proclaim, I am a hero!

I am constantly in awe of heroes in our community. Those that go above and beyond the call of duty to help those in need. Our community has great need with 34.63% of children under the age of 18 living in poverty and 80.75% of public school children participating in the free or reduced price lunch program. With great need comes great opportunity for heroism.

I imagine if most of us contemplated our actions we would find that we are all heroes in more ways than we can count. How are you a hero? How do you LIVE HEROIC? How do you LIVE UNITED?
